"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” — P H I L I 4: 6 - 7
I know I am not the only one who has been worrying about something. I think it's normal to worry about stuff because worrying means you care about the things happening in your life. However, the issue comes when you worry too much. It's a problem when you put too much pressure on yourself. Worrying excessively can also be harmful to your mental and physical health. It can drain your emotional reserves, makes you confused, restless, and gives you headache. Your what-ifs and whys have the chance to ruin you.
I'd want to share a story with you. I hope and pray that this brief story inspires and enlightens you.
In a small village, a low-income family lives. The family was having financial difficulties. They are unable to pay their debts; they almost have no food, and their parents are unemployed. One of their children became ill one day. Their five-year-old daughter developed a very high fever, prompting her parents to take her to the hospital. The doctor informed them that their child had dengue fever when they arrived at the hospital.
"Doctor, how much will we pay?" The doctor was questioned by the mother.
"Ma'am, I'm not sure yet. We'll let you know as soon as she feels better. ".
She can't help but cry when she sees her child struggles. Months later, the mother was in deep sorrow when the doctor told her that her daughter had only a 50% chance of living if she refused to eat and drink her medicines. The child was too weak to swallow her food and medicines.
"M-Mama, this is too much for me." In a faint, trembling voice, said the miserable child.
The mother sobbed once again. The family has almost settled in the hospital. Their mother once stayed with only a single peso coin in her pocket. She's at a loss on what to do. Her face and lips were as pale as paper as she looked at her precious kid.
"God, I don't care about the expenses; please look after my child; she's too young to suffer, and I want her to live." The mother silently prayed while crying.
In the morning, while arranging the bedsheets the mother was taken aback when she observed her daughter talking and playing with her co-patient. Wasn't she too frail to talk and play like that? The mother was puzzled.
"Mama, I'm starving,". said the child and smiled. At first, the mother was still puzzled but later on, she realized everything and cried in happiness. Her daughter is now eating and taking her medications and gradually recovered.
How are you feeling about the story? prayer is so powerful, isn't it? Now, I want to share with you 3 simple but powerful ways to overcome worries and fears.
1. Pray for peace.
God responded to the mother's prayer. All of her worries are taken care of by God. You see, praying to God has a lot of power. When you pray, He will give you rest and peace of mind. Remember that our God is the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6), that your concerns pale in comparison to God's intentions for you. Come to Him, and He will relieve you of all your worries and provide you with peace.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” —JOHN 16:33
"Now may the Lord of peace give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all". —2 THESSALONIANS 3:16
2. Surrender your worries.
You gain strength when you resolve to give Him your worries and difficulties. God sometimes wants us to focus on Him, and only Him, to experience true peace and rest that no one else can deliver.
"Casting all your worries on Him, because He cares for you". —1 PETER 5:7
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and burden in light" —MATTHEW 11:28-30
3. Trust the process.
Trust the process. We must put our trust and faith in God's plan for us rather than our own. Allow Him to complete the task and be still. Don't rush the healing process.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take" —PROVERBS 3:5-6
"And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose"—ROMANS 8:28
I don't know what you're going through right now, but God does. Seek God in every situation. Seek God in all things; in a good or bad season. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Pray, Surrender, and Trust God for you to overcome worries and find peace.
